Left fielder Miguel Cabrera ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Florida
Marlins won in dramatic fashion over the San Francisco Giants by a score of 8
to 5 at SBC Park.

Florida came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 5
runners on 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Paul Lo Duca who
quieted the home crowd when he doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond.
Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still
not enough for San Francisco to come away with the victory.

Jim Mecir(1-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. The losing pitcher
was Armando Benitez(0-3) in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 4 hits and
1 walk.

Andy Virostek was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last
at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'

Rafael Furcal hit a homerun and had 4 RBI at Turner Field as the Atlanta
Braves came back dramatically to top the Colorado Rockies by the score of 8
to 7.

Atlanta won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning when they
tallied 4 runs on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Furcal who made the
Atlanta fans a happy lot when he clubbed a three-run home run (his 4th of the
season). Colorado was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5
separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that
pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

Chris Reitsma(1-0) went 1 inning allowing 1 run for the win. Brian
Fuentes(2-1) ended up with the loss in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in
perseverance for you,' Furcal noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a
while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And
it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
