John Maine struck out 11 batters as the New York (NL) Mets beat the slumping
Washington Nationals by a score of 10 to 3.

Maine(3-1) looked very much in control throughout the night. He surrendered
only 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. New York (NL) totaled 13 hits on the
night.

John Lannan(1-3) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 6 hits and 5 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Maine was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd
when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running
tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -
but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
