In a two run game the Arizona team got by the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers by the
score of 8 to 6.

Arizona came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning plating 2
runs on 3 base hits. After two outs Rusty Ryal jump-started the rally as he
smacked a single. Kelly Johnson stepped into the batter's box and he stroked
a single. Stephen Drew then tripled. Justin Upton was next to bat, but he
was a strikeout victim. Arizona and Los Angeles(NL) each finished the
afternoon with 10 hits.

The winning pitcher was Aaron Heilman(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. Juan Gutierrez earned his 4th save. Hong-Chih Kuo(0-2) was charged
with the loss in relief. Despite the loss, he struckout 5 Arizona batters in
2 innings.

Kelly Johnson collected 2 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI as the Arizona team
defeated the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers 7 to 4 at Dodger Stadium.

Obviously without his best stuff, Dan Haren(2-0) still hung on to pick up the
win. He gave up 3 runs, 9 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Haren
struckout 6 Los Angeles(NL) batters. Arizona had a total of 11 hits for the
game.

Haren was helped out by Juan Gutierrez who recorded his 3rd save. Clayton
Kershaw(0-1) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
6 runs in 3 innings.

In a close game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 7, the Florida Marlins 5 at Sun
Life Stadium.

In the 3rd inning Pittsburgh scored 5 runs when they came up with 6 base hits.
The key at-bat was by Chris Snyder who quieted the home crowd when he
clubbed a three-run home run. Pittsburgh had a total of 10 hits for the
game.

The winning pitcher was Evan Meek(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Joel
Hanrahan preserved the game for Meek, recording his his 1st. Ricky
Nolasco(1-1) ended up with the loss. His ERA ballooned from 1.80 to 9.00 as
he allowed 7 runs in 3 innings.

defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 12 to 5 at PNC Park.

Uggla had a big day with his bat. He blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd
inning and lined a one-base hit which scored a run in the 5th inning.
Florida dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.

The win went to Anibal Sanchez(1-2) who allowed 5 runs in 5 innings. Jose
Veras earned his 1st save. Charlie Morton(0-1) took the loss. He was
knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings.

28,811 fans were treated to a fine game at Dodger Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Atlanta Braves won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Atlanta ended up
winning it in the 10th inning. Chipper Jones drew a walk. Bobby Cox then
called for a steal which was successful. Brooks Conrad got his chance to
keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Brian McCann stepped in and
he was walked intentionally. Nate McLouth stepped into the box and hit a
deep fly. Omar Infante kept the rally going and reached on an error. Melky
Cabrera was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Los Angeles(NL)
had 10 hits in the game while Atlanta had 7, but Atlanta had the more timely
hits.

The win was credited to Billy Wagner(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing 1 run.
Hong-Chih Kuo(0-1) took the loss in relief. He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
