Verlander(1-0) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Chicago (AL) batters. He allowed only 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Verlander recorded 10 strikeouts. The right-handed Verlander lost a no-hitter when Gordon Beckham doubled with two outs in the 6th inning. Detroit rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon. Chris Sale(0-1) was charged with the loss. Craig Lombardi was obviously impressed with the pitching of Verlander, 'That guy made us look a little silly out there this afternoon. We just couldn't get to him at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that kinda performance out of his system.'
