The Houston Astros topped the Oakland A's by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. Oakland surrendered all of the runs Houston needed in the 3rd inning when they came up with 6 runs on 3 hits. That early run support was all that Wandy Rodriguez(2-2) required. Houston took care of Oakland with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. Wilton Lopez preserved the game for Rodriguez, recording his his 2nd save. Jarrod Parker(0-1) took the loss. Houston scored big getting 6 runs off him in 2 and 2/3 innings. 'I struggled a bit out there today,' Rodriguez said, 'but I toughed it out and we got the win.'

Dustin Pedroia had 2 base hits as the Boston Redsox bested the Tampa Bay Rays 4 to 1 at Tropicana Field. The game started off with Boston taking the lead in the first plating 2 runs using 2 hits. Pedroia started the inning off right when he drew a walk. Kevin Youkilis came next and he was hit by a pitch. David Ortiz then slapped a one-base hit to load the bases. One out later, Will Middlebrooks got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Kelly Shoppach came to the plate and doubled. That scoring would be all that was needed. Tampa Bay was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. The win went to Felix Doubront(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 7 and 1/3 innings. Scott Atchison recorded his 1st save. Matt Moore(2-1) suffered the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
