Texas started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first scoring 3 runners on 4 hits.  That early scoring held up.  Texas had 14
hits for the game and Kansas City had 9.  
 
Scott Feldman(1-3) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Bruce Chen(0-5)
was hit with the loss.  He was not very effective, surrendering 7 runs in 5
innings.

Nelson Cruz cracked a homer and had 4 RBI as the Texas Rangers defeated the
Chicago (AL) Whitesox by a score of 10 to 5 at US Cellular Field.
 
Cruz was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors.  He ripped a one-base hit bringing in a
run in the 2nd inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 5th inning.
Texas had 10 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Colby Lewis(2-1) went 6 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Dylan
Axelrod(1-1) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 7 hits and 5 walks in 4 and
2/3 innings.

Mitch Moreland slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Texas Rangers topped the
Chicago (AL) Whitesox in 10 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at Rangers
Ballpark.
 
Both teams had scored 5 runs after nine full innings.  Finally, Texas
prevailed in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Elvis Andrus ripped
a single.  Andrus was safe on a stolen base.  Moreland then drew a walk.
Adrian Beltre followed and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Josh Hamilton
came to the plate and drew a walk making Texas the winners and sending the
27,870 fans home happy.  Chicago (AL) had 12 hits in the game while Texas had
8, but Texas had the more timely hits.  
 
The winning pitcher was Joe Nathan(2-0) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Jesse
Crain(2-2) was the loser in relief.  He surrendered 3 hits and 2 walks in 1
and 1/3 innings.

The Boston Redsox nipped the Kansas City Royals 3 to 2 at Kauffman Stadium in
a hard fought contest.
 
Boston won the game with a run in the 8th inning. Dustin Pedroia reached on an
error.  David Ortiz stepped up to the plate and he doubled.  Will
Middlebrooks dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Adrian
Gonzalez came up and he laced a base-knock.  Scott Podsednik struck out,
unable to help the rally.  Kansas City had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.  
 
The victory went to Alfredo Aceves(2-0) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. Aceves got relief help from Scott Atchison who gained credit for his
2nd save.  Kelvin Herrera(0-2) took the loss in relief.  He was pinned with
the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 inning of work.  
 
'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Lee Michaels
said after the game.  'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have
to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'

Third baseman Evan Longoria had 2 base hits as the Tampa Bay Rays bested the
Oakland A's 3 to 1 at O.co Coliseum.
 
Oakland was unable to claim the lead after Tampa Bay went ahead in the top of

Jeremy Hellickson(3-2) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 and 2/3
innings. Fernando Rodney was credited with his 5th save.  Jarrod Parker(1-3)
took the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.

In an entertaining game at US Cellular Field the final score was the Chicago
(AL) Whitesox 4, the Cleveland Indians 1 in 10 innings.
 
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  Chicago (AL) won the
game in the 10th inning.  Alejandro De Aza led off and started the rally when
he drew a walk.  Adam Dunn dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
Paul Konerko then reached on an error.  Tyler Flowers was up next and he
rifled a three-run blast resulting in an exciting win for Chicago (AL) and a
wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Cleveland out-hit Chicago
(AL) 8 to 5, but Chicago (AL) ended up with more runs.  
 
Jesse Crain(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Tony Sipp(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief.

Cleveland started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first when they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits.  The key offensive moment was
provided by Cabrera who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he
blasted a two-run home run.  Chicago (AL) was out-hit by Cleveland, 11 hits

Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Josh
Beckett had a strong outing as the Boston Redsox bested the Kansas City
Royals 4 to 2 at Fenway Park.
 
Saltalamacchia had a good day at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'
in the 3rd inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in
the 7th inning.  Boston banged out 7 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Beckett(2-2) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Luke
Hochevar(2-2) absorbed the loss.  'Beckett pitched a gem of a game', Lee
Michaels recounted.  'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'

Jon Lester went 8 and one third strong innings as the Boston Redsox defeated
the Oakland A's in 10 innings by the score of 2 to 1 at Fenway Park.
 
Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Boston ended up
winning it in the 10th inning.  After two were out Dustin Pedroia drew a
walk.  David Ortiz stepped up next and he doubled giving Boston the win as
32,660 happy fans joyfully celebrated.  Oakland was out-hit by Boston, 10
hits to 3.  
 
Scott Atchison(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Jordan Norberto(0-2) was hit with the loss in relief.  He pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up 1 hit and 1 walk.

Jordan Lyles delivered 8 solid innings and Jose Altuve had 2 base hits and 2

Houston scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they had 3 base
hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Chris Snyder who brought a roar
from the partisan Minute Maid Park fans when he smashed a two-run homer.
Chicago (AL) had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
 
The win went to Lyles(1-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Lyles got help
from Wilton Lopez who was credited with his 9th save.  John Danks(0-1) ended
up with the loss.  
 
Tony DeFrancesco was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'

scored 7 runs for the win.
 
Houston was unable to climb back into it after Chicago (AL) went ahead for
good in the bottom of the 6th inning plating 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits.
Paul Konerko led off and started the rally when he drew a walk.  Adam Dunn
followed and he popped a two-run clout over the fence.  Tyler Flowers dug
into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Alex Rios was up next and he
clubbed a solo home run.  Gordon Beckham came up to bat and lashed a single.
Alexei Ramirez added to the rally and grounded into a double play.  Chicago
(AL) had 12 hits for the afternoon while Houston had 6.  
 
Dallas Keuchel(0-1) was the loser.  With this win, Chicago (AL) has a 10-15
record.  They have been 4-6 lately.  Houston has a record of 10-14 after the
loss.

Luis Mendoza(3-2) pitched a fine game.  He was reached for 6 hits and 5 walks
in 8 and 2/3 innings.  Mendoza whiffed an impressive total of 9 Chicago (AL)
batters and served up 4 'big flies'.  Overall Kansas City out-hit Chicago
(AL) 11 to 6.  
 
Francisco Liriano(2-3) was given the loss.  He got hit hard, allowing 6 hits

In a game for the baseball purist, Bartolo Colon(3-1) and Brad Lincoln(0-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Oakland A's finally emerged victorious
over Toronto Bluejays, 2 to 0.
 
Colon pitched a fine game.  He was reached for 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3
innings reducing his ERA from 4.00 to 2.84.  Grant Balfour relieved and was
untouched by Toronto as he recorded the save, his 9th.

Oakland took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run on 2
hits.  Toronto had 8 hits in the game while Oakland had 5, but Oakland had
the more timely hits.  
 
A.J. Griffin(1-1) allowed 1 run in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Grant Balfour recorded his 8th save.  The loss was charged to J.A.
Happ(0-1).  Despite the loss, he struckout 12 Oakland batters in 7 and 1/3
innings.  
 
'He gutted it out' Lee Michaels said of Griffin.  'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'
