Lance Lynn didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning and third baseman David
Freese had 2 base hits at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the
San Diego Padres by the count of 3 to 2.

Lynn(1-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed just 4 hits and
2 walks in 8 innings. Lynn mowed down 10 San Diego batters. The
right-handed Lynn lost a no-hitter when Nick Hundley singled with nobody out
in the 6th inning. San Diego made it exciting in the 9th, but they were
unable to push the needed runs across.

Lynn got relief help from Edward Mujica who gained credit for his 1st save.
Andrew Cashner(0-1) was charged with the loss.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Lynn - except San Diego. Kimon
Michaels lamented, 'He just was 'on' this afternoon. He was keeping our guys
off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a
fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'

finished with 12 hits in the victory.

Eric Stults(0-1) absorbed the loss. He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 2
walks in 7 innings. 'All of my pitches were working today,' Wainwright said.
