After an out was recorded, Jordan Schafer began the Atlanta spurt when he drew a walk. Schafer was safe at second on a stolen base. After another out, Freddie Freeman then delivered a base-hit resulting in a run. McCann was up next and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Atlanta totaled 8 hits on the afternoon. Freddy Garcia(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Craig Kimbrel recorded his 13th save. Homer Bailey(2-1) suffered the loss. Although losing the contest, he whiffed 8 batters in 5 innings.

Atlanta rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. The win went to Paul Maholm(2-3) who allowed 1 run in 5 and 1/3 innings. Cole Hamels(1-8) took the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings.

Pettibone(4-2) gave Philadelphia a solid outing. He went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 walks. The right-handed Pettibone lost a no-hitter when Yadier Molina singled with one out in the 7th inning. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Jonathan Papelbon was credited with his 6th save. Lance Lynn(2-2) absorbed the loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 9 hits and 2 walks.
