Boston came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 hits. Daniel Nava got things rolling when he cracked a solo homerun. Stephen Drew followed next and he ripped a base-hit. Mike Carp then reached on an error. Jacoby Ellsbury was up next and he grounded into a double play. Dustin Pedroia came to the plate and smacked a single giving Boston the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. For the game Boston out-hit Toronto 10 to 5. The win was credited to Andrew Miller(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Casey Janssen(0-2) in relief. He gave up 2 runs without retiring a batter and saw his ERA jump from 2.38 to 3.18.

Boston remained hot, improving their record to a division leading 14-5. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. With this loss, Toronto has a 4-6 record of late, 11-13 overall.

The key offensive moment was provided by Omar Infante who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he belted a three-run homer. Toronto had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Rick Porcello(1-2) allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Porcello got relief help from Joaquin Benoit who gained credit for his 1st save. J.A. Happ(0-1) was the losing pitcher. 'It was a tough one to lose' said John DePanicis 'We'll get them next time out.'

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Detroit won the game in the 10th inning. Torii Hunter started the inning off right when he laced a base-knock. Alex Avila was the next batter, but he struck out. Andy Dirks then delivered a one-base hit. Dirks took second on the throw. Austin Jackson came up and he reached on an error which brought home a run. Omar Infante stepped into the box and reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Detroit finished with 12 hits while Cleveland ended up with 7. Drew Smyly(1-0) went 3 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Joe Smith(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.
