Matt Cain pitched 9 strong innings at Chase Field where the San Francisco
Giants beat the Arizona ballclub 3 to 0.

Arizona was unable to recover after San Francisco went ahead in the top of the
6th inning scoring one runner on 2 hits. San Francisco banged out 9 hits on
the afternoon.

Cain(1-0) was credited with the shutout. Doug Davis(0-1) ended up with the
loss. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run
in the game.
