Shortstop Ian Desmond cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Washington
Nationals topped the Chicago (NL) Cubs by a score of 7 to 3 at Wrigley
Field.

Washington brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 3rd inning. The
highlight belonged to Michael Morse who silenced the crowd when he hit a
single bringing in two baserunners. Washington simply wore out the Chicago
(NL) pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Gio Gonzalez(1-0) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Jeff
Samardzija(0-3) was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10
hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

At Chase Field the St. Louis Cardinals outscored the Arizona club 6 to
3.

Arizona never recovered after St. Louis took the lead in the top of the 2nd
inning scoring 2 runners on 4 hits. The biggest moment was provided by David
Freese who disappointed the partisan crowd when he popped a two-run clout
over the fence. St. Louis had 11 hits for the afternoon while Arizona had 8.

Kyle Lohse(2-0) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Lohse got
relief help from Edward Mujica who gained credit for his 2nd save. Joe
Saunders(0-1) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 6 innings of work.

Miguel Montero had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Arizona club bested the St.
Louis Cardinals in 13 innings 6 to 3 at Busch Stadium.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. Arizona was victorious in the 13th
inning. After an out was recorded, Justin Upton opened up the rally as he
slapped a one-base hit. One out later, Paul Goldschmidt came up and he drew
a walk. Montero then doubled. Willie Bloomquist followed next and he lined
a base-hit. Arizona took care of St. Louis with no trouble in the bottom of
the 13th.

Bryan Shaw(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Patrick
Corbin earned the save, his 1st. Jason Motte(0-1) was hit with the loss in
relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 3 hits in 1 inning.

Starlin Castro had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago (NL) Cubs defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 2 at PNC Park.

Chicago (NL) took the lead for keeps in the top of the 4th inning scoring a
single run on 2 hits. Bryan Lahair ripped a one-base hit. Anthony Rizzo
came to the plate and ripped a base-knock. After an out was recorded, Castro
then would ground out. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came
up short.

The victory was credited to Matt Garza(1-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 2
runs. James Russell earned his 1st save. A.J. Burnett(0-1) absorbed the
loss.

'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Clint Hurdle after the game.
'We lost this game today because we didn't follow the instructions every
Little Leaguer hears every day.'

It was a great finish at Nationals Park as the Washington Nationals pulled off
a dramatic comeback beating the San Francisco Giants by the count of 3 to
2.

Washington won the game with a rally in the 9th inning plating 2 runs using 3
hits. Adam Laroche started the inning off right when he doubled. Roger
Bernadina next to the plate and he doubled. Ian Desmond then slapped a
one-base hit. Desmond took second on the throw. Washington and San
Francisco each finished the afternoon with 6 hits.

The victory went to Drew Storen(1-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Santiago Casilla(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. 'That was
exciting!,' Wilson Ramos said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'
