The Florida Marlins came in to the game in quite a tailspin, but they were
able to snap their 5 game slide and cruised to a 10 to 5 victory over the
Washington Nationals at Dolphins Stadium.

In the bottom of the 4th inning Florida went on top for good as they scored 5
runs on 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Cody Ross who
electrified Dolphins Stadium when he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run (his 6th of the season). Florida and Washington each finished the
afternoon with 9 hits.

The victory was credited to Anibal Sanchez(1-0) who went 6 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. John Lannan(1-4) took the loss. He was not very effective,
surrendering 5 runs in 4 innings.

The win by Florida is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in
recent days. Their record now stands at 10-13 - only 2-8 in their last ten
games. With the loss Washington now has a record of 6-18, worst in the
division.

Russell Martin had 2 base hits at Dodger Stadium as the Los Angeles(NL)
Dodgers came back dramatically to top the Florida Marlins by the score of 4
to 3.

Los Angeles(NL) erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning with 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits. James Loney opened up the inning
nicely when he smacked a single. Martin came next and he drew a walk. Blake
Dewitt then drew a walk to load the bases. Delwyn Young was up next and he
hit a deep fly. Rafael Furcal came to the plate and doubled. Los
Angeles(NL) banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.

The win was credited to Cory Wade(2-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Kevin Gregg(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. John DePanicis was in great
spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after
the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I
know how my counterpart, Andy Virostek, feels right now - and it's not very
good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
