see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately,
I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught

Mike Piazza ripped 2 homeruns and Juan Padilla closed the door on Cincinnati
at Shea Stadium where the New York (NL) Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds by the
score of 11 to 8.

Piazza provided much of the offense. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 4th inning and electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run
(his 5th of the season) in the 5th inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame,
scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Cincinnati to come
away with the victory.

The winning pitcher was Pedro Martinez(4-2) who allowed 7 runs in 5 innings.
Padilla got the save, his 5th. Paul Wilson(0-1) was the loser. He served up
4 gopher balls in 5 innings.
