Center fielder Willy Taveras had 4 hits at Minute Maid Field where the Houston
Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 9 to 7.

Taveras provided much of the offense. He delivered a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, slapped a single in the 3rd inning, electrified the crowd with a
Grand Slam home run (his 1st of the season) in the 4th inning and slapped a
base-hit which scored a run in the 6th inning. Both teams ended up with 12
on the afternoon.

Wandy Rodriguez(1-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Brad
Lidge got the save, his 3rd. Ryan Madson(1-1) was tagged with the loss in
relief. Houston scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2 innings.

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI
and Carlos Zambrano took a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Chicago (NL)
Cubs defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 12 to 3 at Wrigley
Field.

Zambrano(2-0) was very good in the win. He gave up just 3 hits and 3 walks in
9 innings. Zambrano recorded 11 strikeouts and gave up 2 homeruns reducing
his ERA from 4.76 to 4.15. The right-handed Zambrano lost his no-hit bid
when Lance Berkman homered with nobody out in the 7th inning. Chicago (NL)
rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon.

Brandon Backe(0-2) ended up with the loss. 'Everything felt great' Zambrano
said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody today.'

The Cincinnati Reds defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 4 to 1 at
Petco Park.

Cincinnati started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. That was all the offense
they were to need. After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to score.

Ramon Ortiz(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 8 and 2/3 innings.
Ortiz got relief help from David Weathers who gained credit for his 5th save.

Javier Valentin jacked one out of the ballyard and had 6 RBI at Great American

Valentin had a big day at the plate. He belted a three-run homer (his 2nd of
the season) in the 2nd inning, lined a single which plated a run in the 3rd
inning and slapped a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners in the 8th
inning. Cincinnati had 12 hits for the game and San Diego had 7.

Aaron Harang(2-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Jake
Peavy(0-2) suffered the loss. 'I was in my hotel room the other night,
working on my swing and made some adjustments,' Valentin said. 'I'm always
working on it. If they are getting you out certain ways, you've got to make
changes.'

Ryan Drese(2-2) pitched a solid game. He surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks in 6

Brad Ausmus had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Houston Astros defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates in 12 innings by the score of 7 to 6 at Minute Maid
Field.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Houston came out
the victor in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Jason Lane got
things rolling when he delivered a one-base hit. Chris Burke was next and he
doubled. Adam Everett then drew a walk to load the bases. Ausmus stepped in
and he slapped a base-hit, and an error was also committed, making Houston
victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Both teams finished
the game with 13 hits.

The victory was credited to Brad Lidge(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing 2
runs. Mike Gonzalez(0-2) was the loser in relief. Houston scored big getting
3 runs off him in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Center fielder Nate McLouth lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and scored 3
times and Dave Williams went the distance as the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored
the Houston Astros 9 to 2.

Williams(4-0) gave Pittsburgh a solid outing. He gave up just 5 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings. Pittsburgh banged out 12 on the afternoon.

Brandon Backe(0-1) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in 4 innings.

The winning ways continue for Pittsburgh. They now have a record of 9-1 in

Second baseman Jeff Kent blasted 2 homeruns as the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers
defeated the Florida Marlins by the score of 3 to 2 at Dodger Stadium.

Kent had a good day at the plate. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd

The San Diego Padres came in to the game in quite a tailspin, but they were
able to snap their 5 game slide and defeated the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers by a
score of 7 to 4 at Dodger Stadium.

Dave Roberts had a big day with his bat. He rifled a three-run blast (his 2nd
of the season) in the 5th inning and delivered a single bringing in a run in
the 6th inning. San Diego finished with 7 hits in the victory.

Chris Hammond(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3
innings. Hammond got relief help from Trevor Hoffman who gained credit for
his 4th save. Derek Lowe(2-2) was hit with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 6
innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.25 to 3.71.
