C.J. Wilson went the distance and designated hitter Mark Trumbo had 4 hits and
4 RBI as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels smashed the overmatched Houston Astros,
17 to 4.
 
Trumbo had a big day with his bat.  He laced a single which plated a run in
the 4th inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning, blasted a
solo shot in the 7th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 8th inning.
Los Angeles(AL) kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning when they had 5
runs on 5 hits.  The Los Angeles(AL) offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of
the 9 innings.  
 
The win went to Wilson(4-0) who allowed 4 runs in the game. Wandy
Rodriguez(3-3) was given the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits
and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Jordan Schafer lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI at Minute Maid
Park as the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 8 to 6.
 
Houston scored 3 runs in the decisive 6th inning when they came up with 4 base
hits.  They would hold up as the winning runs.  Los Angeles(AL) had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
The victory went to Brett Myers(2-1) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Wilton Lopez got the save, his 5th.  Zack Greinke(0-1) was the loser.
He was unable to control the Houston offense and allowed 9 hits and 4 walks
in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'We won because we did the little things right.' Tony DeFrancesco said after
the game.  'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we
get in close games we don't make mistakes.'

plating an isolated run.  Boston out-hit Oakland for the game, 10 hits to 4.
 
Alfredo Aceves(1-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory.
Aceves was helped out by Junichi Tazawa who recorded his 2nd save.  Jordan
Norberto(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  His ERA increased from 2.84
to 3.24 as he allowed 1 run in 2 innings.  
 
Wth the win Boston now has a record of a division leading 8-6.  With the loss
Oakland now has a record of 7-4.

Indians topped the Minnesota Twins by the slimmest of margins, 10 to
9.
 
Corey Kluber(2-1) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win. He
allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings.  Cleveland had a total of 12 hits for
the game.  
 
Vinnie Pestano preserved the game for Kluber, recording his his 1st save.  The
loss was charged to Scott Diamond(0-4).  He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving
up 5 hits and 3 walks.

Cleveland pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Cleveland set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner on 2

The winning pitcher was Ubaldo Jimenez(2-0) who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings.
Luis Mendoza(1-2) was given the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9
hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.

Miguel Gonzalez(2-2) was in control of the game from the outset.  He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and 5 walks in 7 innings dropping
his ERA from 3.21 to 2.57.  Baltimore finished with 9 hits while Tampa Bay
ended up with 4.  
 
Gonzalez got help from Jim Johnson who earned his 5th save.  Jeremy

Kauffman Stadium.
 
Cleveland had the winning rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs on 4 hits.
Ezequiel Carrera led off and keyed the rally when he delivered a base-hit.
Carrera stole second with some aggressive base running.  After an out was
recorded, Jason Kipnis then laced a single.  Asdrubal Cabrera came up and he
hit a sacrifice fly.  Lou Marson came to the plate and banged out a single.
Jack Hannahan kept the rally going and stroked a base-hit.  Cleveland had 14
hits for the game and Kansas City had 7.  
 
The winning pitcher was Zach McAllister(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings.
Chris Perez preserved the game for McAllister, recording his his 2nd save.
Aaron Crow(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He allowed 3 hits and no walks in
1/3 of an inning.

The Texas Rangers edged the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park by the score of 5
to 4.
 
In the 7th inning Texas scored 3 runs with the help of 3 hits.  They would
hold up as the winning runs.  Detroit threatened in the 9th but Texas was
able to put down the rally.  
 
Colby Lewis(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Joe Nathan gained credit for his 1st save.  Justin Verlander(3-1) was given
the loss.  
 
When questioned about the loss, Chris Couch said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there this afternoon.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time.  Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'

Max Scherzer pitched a 1 hit shutout at Rangers Ballpark where the Detroit
Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 1 to 0.
 
Scherzer(2-1) escaped virtually unscathed against the Texas hitters.  He
didn't give up much, just 1 hit and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA
from 2.57 to 1.57.  Detroit had just 5 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Derek Holland(1-1) absorbed the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up 5 hits
and 3 walks.  Scherzer was humble when questioned about his performance,
'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches this afternoon.  But, I had
great support behind me and I just threw what was called.  That was an
extremely well called game!'

Albert Pujols cracked a homer as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels defeated the
Detroit Tigers in 11 innings 9 to 6 at Angel Stadium.
 
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings.  Los Angeles(AL) ended up
winning it in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Torii Hunter got
things going when he delivered a one-base hit.  A balk was called.  Mike
Trout then drew a walk.  Mark Trumbo followed next and he lofted a three-run
bomb giving Los Angeles(AL) the win and sending the home town fans into a
frenzy.  Los Angeles(AL) had 11 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Hisanori Takahashi(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Brayan Villarreal(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  Despite taking the
loss, he whiffed 6 batters in 2 and 1/3 innings.  
 
The Los Angeles(AL) ballclub's record now stands at 16-7.  With this loss,
Detroit has a 7-3 record of late, 8-3 overall.

Doug Fister blanked Los Angeles(AL) in a very well-pitched complete game as
the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by a score of 6 to
0.
 
Fister(2-0) escaped virtually unscathed against the Los Angeles(AL) hitters.
He didn't allow much, just 4 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings.  Detroit totaled
7 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Jered Weaver(3-2) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 7
and 1/3 innings.

The Boston Redsox bested the Houston Astros by a 7 to 4 score at Minute Maid
Park.
 
Jon Lester(2-2) had a steady outing.  He allowed 11 hits and 1 walk in 6 and
1/3 innings.  Lester chalked up 8 strikeouts.  The Houston offense proved no
trouble in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
Lester got help from Junichi Tazawa who was credited with his 1st save.  The
losing pitcher was Brett Myers(1-1) in relief.  He pitched 2 innings allowing
2 hits and 1 walk.
