25,674 fans were treated to a fine game at Bank One Ballpark as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Arizona ballclub won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.

Jose Valverde(3-0) earned the victory with a fine relief performance. He did
not allow a hit or a walk in his 2/3 of an inning. San Diego threatened in
the 9th but Arizona was able to put down the rally.

Buddy Groom recorded the save, his 1st. Chris Hammond(3-2) was charged with
the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 2 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.

'Some losses are harder to take than others' Andy Virostek lamented after the
game. 'This was one of them.'

Dontrelle Willis(3-2) and Pedro Martinez(3-1) treated the New York (NL) fans
to a fine pitching duel at Shea Stadium. The Florida Marlins eventually
emerged as victors over the New York (NL) Mets by the score of 3 to 0.

New York (NL) was unable to claim the lead after Florida went ahead in the 2nd
inning scoring a single run. That was all the runs Willis needed. Florida
had a total of 8 hits for the game.

Tom Glavine completed the game without help from the bullpen as the New York
(NL) Mets topped the Florida Marlins by a score of 6 to 1 at Shea
Stadium.

Glavine(2-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 5 hits
and 3 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.10 to 2.61. New York (NL)
rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon.

A.J. Burnett(1-3) was the loser. He allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Atlanta scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Rafael Furcal slapped a
one-base hit. Marcus Giles came to the plate and drew a walk. Chipper Jones
then drew a walk to load the bases. Andruw Jones stepped in and he grounded
into a double play. Adam Laroche stepped into the box and hit a single
scoring the run. Atlanta banged out 7 on the afternoon.

Philadelphia took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning when they
scored 2 runs on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Jimmy Rollins
who brought a roar from the partisan Citizen's Bank Park fans when he doubled
bringing in two baserunners. Overall Philadelphia out-hit Colorado 13 to 10.

Morgan Ensberg blasted a homerun at Minute Maid Field as the Houston Astros

Houston erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning with 2 runs using

lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 8th of the season). One out later,
