Right fielder Jose Guillen had 4 hits as the Washington Nationals pulled out a
win over the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 4 to 3 at RFK STADIUM.

The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Brad Wilkerson drew a
walk. Wilkerson was safe at second on a stolen base. Jose Vidro then laid
down a sacrifice bunt. Guillen stepped in and he laced a one-base hit giving
Washington the victory as 24,928 happy fans celebrated wildly. Washington
and St. Louis each finished the afternoon with 9 hits.

Hector Carrasco(4-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Jason
Isringhausen(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He allowed 2 hits and 1 walk
in 1 and 1/3 innings.

In a close game the Washington Nationals got by the St. Louis Cardinals in 14
innings by the score of 6 to 4.

The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Washington came out on top in
the 14th inning. Marlon Byrd led off and started the rally when he laced a
single. Brad Wilkerson struck out, unable to help the rally. Jose Vidro
then smacked a single. Jose Guillen came up and he lashed a single to load
the bases. Nick Johnson stepped into the box and lined a one-base hit
knocking home two runners. St. Louis had 18 hits in the game while
Washington had 15, but Washington had the more timely hits.

The victory was credited to Luis Ayala(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Chad Cordero was credited with his 4th save. Randy Flores(0-1) was hit
with the loss in relief.

Washington now has a record of 10-15. The loss by St. Louis interrupted a
nice 8-2 recent run.

Mark Mulder was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and shortstop David Eckstein connected with a 'big fly' at
Minute Maid Field as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Houston Astros by the

In the 3rd inning St. Louis went on top for good scoring one runner utilizing
2 base hits. Walker doubled. Albert Pujols was next and he drew a walk.
After another out, Reggie Sanders got his turn next, but he was a strikeout
victim. Mark Grudzielanek stepped in and he doubled scoring the run. St.
Louis ended up with 10 hits for the game while Houston had 7.

game out in the 11th inning. The big moment was provided by Berkman who
deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he cracked a two-run shot (his
4th of the season). Houston rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.

The win went to Brad Lidge(3-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Jose
Acevedo(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. Houston scored big getting 4
runs off him in 2 innings.

anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 12 to
7.

Todd Jones(1-0) looked good in relief and was the winning pitcher. He gave up
just 2 hits and no walks in 2 and 1/3 innings. Florida bats were hot in the
9th inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 8 hits. Florida out-hit Colorado
for the game, 21 hits to 15.

First baseman Albert Pujols blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the St. Louis
Cardinals topped the Arizona ballclub by a score of 4 to 3 at Bank One
Ballpark.

St. Louis brought 2 runs across the plate in the 7th inning with the help of 3
hits. They would be enough to earn the win. St. Louis banged out 9 on the
night.

Jeff Suppan went 8 strong innings at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Arizona club by the count of 2 to
1.

St. Louis came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs. Larry
Walker led off and started the attack as he reached on an error. Albert
Pujols stepped up to the plate and he blasted a two-run home run (his 1st of
the season) giving St. Louis the victory and sending the 47,402 home-town
fans home happy. St. Louis finished with just 3 hits in the victory.

Julian Tavarez(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Brandon
Webb(2-1) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered only 2 runs and 3 hits in 8
innings.

'We just wouldn't give up,' Pujols said. 'Much of the credit goes to our fans
- they were with us the whole way.'

Jason Marquis had a strong outing at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner
