Chicago (AL) Whitesox by the score of 7 to 3 at US Cellular Field.

Chavez enjoyed a big day at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in

doubled scoring a run in the 6th inning. Chicago (AL) had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Jakubauskas(1-0) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. The right-handed Jakubauskas had his no-hit bid broken up
by Dewayne Wise who doubled with nobody out in the 9th inning. Gavin

Justin Verlander retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Detroit Tigers
outscored the Cleveland Indians 4 to 2.

Verlander(4-4) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for
the Cleveland batters. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 2 walks in 8
and 2/3 innings. Cleveland made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable
to push the needed runs across.

Fernando Rodney recorded the save, his 4th. Justin Masterson(2-1) absorbed
the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in
his 4 innings of work.

Andy Virostek was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did you
see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling
the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'

runs in the 8th inning and defeated the Detroit Tigers 5 to 4.

4 runs on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Kelly Shoppach who
quieted the crowd when he lined a single bringing in two baserunners.
Cleveland managed only 6 hits on the afternoon.

Jensen Lewis(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Lewis was
helped out by Aaron Laffey who recorded his 2nd save. Fernando Rodney(0-3)
