The Arizona club and the Chicago (NL) Cubs locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Wrigley Field. The final score was the Arizona club 5, the Chicago
(NL) Cubs 4.
Arizona won the game with a rally in the top of the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 4 base hits. After two outs Aaron Hill got things rolling when he
clubbed a solo home run. Justin Upton came next and he cracked a solo
homerun. Paul Goldschmidt then singled. Miguel Montero followed next and he
ripped a one-base hit. Chicago (NL) tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.
The victory went to Craig Breslow(1-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. J.J. Putz preserved the game for Breslow, recording his his 2nd save.
Travis Wood(0-1) was tagged with the loss.

In a two run game the Arizona club plated 4 runs in the 6th inning and got by
the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the score of 4 to 2.
Ian Kennedy(1-0) pitched a fine game. He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 6
innings. Chicago (NL) had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Kennedy was helped out by J.J. Putz who recorded his 1st save. Jeff
Samardzija(0-1) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3
walks in 7 innings.
When questioned about the loss, Dale Svuem said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'
