Carlos Pena slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Wrigley Field where the
Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5 to 3.

Pena enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 2nd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the
7th inning and doubled scoring a run in the 8th inning. Chicago (NL) rapped
out 10 hits for the afternoon.

The victory went to Carlos Marmol(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Mitchell Boggs(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.

'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Pena said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'

The Chicago (NL) Cubs pitching staff was overwhelmed by the St. Louis
Cardinals lineup who plated 14 runs while Kyle Lohse(1-0), with relief help
from Jason Motte, allowed Chicago (NL) 6 runs.

St. Louis went ahead for good in the 3rd inning when they came up with 2 runs
on 3 hits. St. Louis had 18 hits for the game and Chicago (NL) had 10.

Carlos Zambrano(0-2) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 13 hits and 4
walks in 7 innings.

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at Busch Stadium
where the Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3 to 2.

In the top of the 2nd inning Chicago (NL) went on top for good scoring a
single run using 2 hits. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.

The victory was credited to Ryan Dempster(2-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 2
runs. Dempster got relief help from Jeff Samardzija who gained credit for his
1st save. Jaime Garcia(0-2) was the losing pitcher.

Ryan Doumit had 3 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates pulled out a win over
the San Diego Padres by a score of 3 to 2 at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Andrew
McCutchen was hit by a pitch. Paul swiped second base. Garrett Jones was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out. Doumit was up next and he ripped a
base-knock. Ernesto Frieri then threw a wild pitch giving Pittsburgh the win
and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Pittsburgh totaled 8 hits on
the afternoon.

The victory went to Jason Grilli(2-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Mike Adams(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 1 hit and no

threatened in the 9th but Cincinnati was able to put down the rally.

'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Craig Lombardi said. 'We did

Zack Greinke allowed just 3 hits at PNC Park as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 6 to 1.

Pittsburgh never recovered after Milwaukee took the lead in the top of the 3rd
inning plating one baserunner on 2 base hits. Milwaukee totaled 13 hits on
the afternoon.

The winning pitcher was Greinke(2-0) who allowed 1 run for the game. Kevin
Correia(1-1) was given the loss. He was touched for 9 hits and 2 walks in 6
and 2/3 innings.

'He was really impressive today,' Correia said of his counterpart. 'Our guys
were just swinging at air.'

At Citi Field, the New York (NL) fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. R.A.
Dickey(1-1) finally bested his Los Angeles(NL) opposite, Ted Lilly(1-2), by
the score of 1 to 0.

The game's lone run was scored in the 6th inning. Los Angeles(NL) threatened
in the 9th but New York (NL) was able to put down the rally.

Bobby Parnell recorded the save, his 1st. The losing pitcher was Lilly. He
allowed 1 run and 4 hits in 6 innings.

Craig Lombardi was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only
we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'

In a thriller the Pittsburgh Pirates staged a dramatic comeback over the New
York (NL) Mets winning by a score of 4 to 3 at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs using 2 hits. Ryan Doumit led off and keyed the rally when he drew a
walk. Paul was running on the next pitch and he stole second. After an out
was recorded, Josh Harrison stepped in and he slapped a single. After
another out, Ryan Ludwick came to bat and drew a walk. Jason Jaramillo came
up to bat and stroked a single. Pittsburgh had only 5 hits for the
afternoon.

The victory went to Brad Lincoln(1-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Manny Acosta(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits
and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning.

John Thomas was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim
there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans -
they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
