The San Diego Padres got by the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
The final score was 3 to 1.

San Diego had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs using
4 hits. Aaron Cunningham led off the inning for San Diego when he lashed a
single. Cunningham was safe at second on a stolen base. Nick Hundley
followed, but he was set down on strikes. Adrian Gonzalez was up next and he
stroked a one-base hit. Chase Headley came to the plate and stroked a
base-hit. David Eckstein was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.
Ryan Ludwick next to the plate and he laced a base-hit. San Diego had 8
hits for the afternoon.

First baseman Jeff Clement recorded 4 RBI with one swing when he ripped a
grand slam at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates won in dramatic fashion
coming back to beat the San Diego Padres by the count of 8 to 7.

Pittsburgh came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 4 runners
on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Clement who electrified PNC Park
when he brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer.
Pittsburgh banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.

Joel Hanrahan(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Heath
Bell(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. 'That was exciting!,' Clement
said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'

Field.

Dempster(4-2) simply dominated Arizona. He didn't give up much, just 2 hits

drop from 3.16 to 2.54. The right-handed Dempster lost a no-hitter when

Tyler Colvin had 3 base hits at AT&T Park where the Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Chicago (NL) ended up winning
it in the 12th inning. Aramis Ramirez led off and started the attack as he
slapped a single. After another out, Xavier Nady got his chance to keep
things going, but he went down on strikes. Colvin then lined a one-base hit.
Blake Dewitt was up next and he doubled. Carlos Zambrano stepped into the
box and drew a walk. Starlin Castro did his part to keep things going and
smacked a single. Castro took second on the throw. Geovany Soto was the
next batter, but he struck out. Both teams finished the game with 12 hits.

The win was credited to Zambrano(1-2) who went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 2
runs. Andrew Cashner preserved the game for Zambrano, recording his his 1st.
Brian Wilson(1-2) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs and 4 hits
in 1 inning.

Philadelphia had the winning rally in the 8th inning plating 2 runs using 3
hits. After an out was recorded, Placido Polanco initiated the scoring spurt
when he ripped a base-knock. Shane Victorino was next and he ripped a
base-hit. After another out, Carlos Ruiz came to the plate and drew a walk
to load the bases. Wilson Valdez was up next and he delivered a one-base
hit. Chase Utley got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on
strikes. Both teams totaled 7 hits on the afternoon.

J.C. Romero(2-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Romero got help from Ryan Madson who earned his 2nd save. Pedro
Feliciano(0-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 1 hit and no walks in 1/3

Placido Polanco went yard at Citizen's Bank Park where the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the New York (NL) Mets 3 to 2.

Philadelphia brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning
when they had 3 base hits. Ryan Howard led off and started the rally when he
delivered a single. Jayson Werth stepped up next and he grounded into a
double play. Raul Ibanez then lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Polanco
stepped in and he cracked a solo homerun. New York (NL) threatened in the
9th but Philadelphia was able to put down the rally.

The win went to Roy Oswalt(4-0) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings. Brad Lidge
earned the save, his 3rd. Jonathon Niese(3-1) was hit with the loss. He
allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.

'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Craig Lombardi said. 'We did
what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'

topped the Washington Nationals by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Edwin Jackson(3-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for Arizona. He
went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 walks. Jackson whiffed an
impressive total of 8 Washington batters lowering his ERA from 4.19 to 3.60.
Washington threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Juan Gutierrez gained credit for his 8th save. Scott Olsen(0-3) was the
losing pitcher. 'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Lee
Michaels said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What
can you say?'

Jhoulys Chacin(1-1) thrilled the fans at Chase Field as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Arizona team. The Colorado Rockies won by a final
score of 11 to 0.

Chacin was spectacular. He walked 3 Arizona batters. The tension started to
build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified.
Chacin struckout 14 Arizona batters. Colorado had a total of 13 hits for the
game.

Rodrigo Lopez(1-1) took the loss. He got hammered, allowing 7 hits and 2
walks in 3 and 1/3 innings. It took a while to pry Chacin way from his
teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy. Finally,
however, George Nasser got to offer his own congratulations with a big bear
hug and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have seen in
all my years in baseball - Chacin was masterful out there this afternoon!'
