Shortstop Ryan Theriot had 2 base hits as the Chicago (NL) Cubs won a dandy at
Wrigley Field over the Milwaukee Brewers, 4 to 3.

Chicago (NL) won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Reed Johnson drew a
walk. Felix Pie stepped up next and he slapped a base-hit. Theriot then
lashed a single to load the bases. After an out was recorded, Mike Fontenot
came to the plate and smacked a one-base hit giving Chicago (NL) the victory
and sending the 36,108 home-town fans home happy. For the game Chicago (NL)
out-hit Milwaukee 9 to 6.

The win went to Carlos Marmol(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Guillermo
Mota(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. His ERA ballooned from 2.25 to 4.15
as he allowed 1 run in 1/3 of an inning.

In a close game it was the Milwaukee Brewers 3, the Chicago (NL) Cubs 1 at
Wrigley Field.

Chicago (NL) surrendered all of the runs Milwaukee needed in the 8th inning
with 3 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Rickie Weeks keyed the
rally when he was hit by a pitch. J.J. Hardy was the next batter, but he
struck out. Weeks got a great jump and stole second easily. Ryan Braun was
up next and he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 2nd of the season).
Prince Fielder came to the plate and blasted a solo shot (his 1st of the
season). Milwaukee had only 6 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Ben Sheets(2-1) who went 7 innings allowing 1 run.
Salomon Torres earned the save, his 1st. Jeff Samardzija(0-1) was the losing
pitcher in relief. Milwaukee scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2 innings.

critical plate appearance was by Geovany Soto who deflated the crowd as he
depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam home run (his 2nd of

In a game for the baseball purist, Seth McClung(1-0) and Ryan Dempster(1-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Milwaukee Brewers finally emerged
victorious over Chicago (NL) Cubs, 2 to 0.

In the 2nd inning Milwaukee scored 2 runs. That early scoring was all that
McClung needed. Neither team managed to score after the 2nd inning.

Third baseman Chipper Jones blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI and Jorge Campillo
threw a complete game shutout at Turner Field as the Atlanta Braves belted

pitcher's duel. Chad Billingsley(3-0) finally bested his Cincinnati
counterpart, Edinson Volquez(0-3), by the score of 2 to 1.

The game was won by Los Angeles(NL) with a run in the top of the 9th inning.
Jeff Kent smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 1st of the season). James
Loney stepped up to the plate and he hit a single. Russell Martin then
grounded into a double play. Los Angeles(NL) managed 7 hits in their
victory.

Hong-Chih Kuo recorded the save, his 2nd. Volquez was given the loss. He

Left fielder Juan Pierre had 2 base hits at Dodger Stadium as the Los
Angeles(NL) Dodgers pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Cincinnati
Reds by the count of 6 to 5.

Los Angeles(NL) came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
with 3 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Russell Martin led off and started the
rally when he drew a walk. Martin stole second with some aggressive base
running. Blake Dewitt then banged out a single. Angel Berroa was up next
and he delivered a base-hit. Rafael Furcal stepped into the box and
delivered a one-base hit. Luis Maza joined his teammates in the uprising and
reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Pierre came up and he
stroked a base-hit. Although they lost, Cincinnati did out-hit Los
Angeles(NL) 16 to 10.

The victory went to Hong-Chih Kuo(1-0) who went 4 innings, allowing no runs.
Francisco Cordero(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief.

'What a win!', Kuo said. 'These are the kind of games that stand out in your
mind at the end of a season.'

Third baseman Edwin Encarnacion lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2
RBI at Great American Bpk where the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee
Brewers by the score of 5 to 4.

Cincinnati brought 4 runs across the plate in the 6th inning with the help of
4 hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest. Milwaukee
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.

Johnny Cueto(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 4 runs. Francisco Cordero earned his 1st save. Jeff Suppan(0-2) was

innings lowering his ERA from 6.00 to 2.57. Milwaukee had only 5 hits for
the afternoon.

Sheets got relief help from Eric Gagne who gained credit for his 1st save.
Charlie Morton(0-1) was the losing pitcher. When asked about his strikeout
total for the game, Sheets offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun
to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands.

The Atlanta Braves edged the Milwaukee Brewers in 11 innings at Turner Field
by the score of 3 to 2.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Atlanta was victorious in the
11th inning. Yunel Escobar drew a walk. Kelly Johnson next to the plate and
he reached on an error. Chipper Jones then lined a base-hit resulting in an
exciting win for Atlanta and a wild post-game celebration by the home town
fans. Atlanta finished with just 6 hits in the victory.
