Brian McCann blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Atlanta Braves defeated
the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 5 to 4 at Great American Bpk.
 
Cincinnati was unable to climb back into it after Atlanta went ahead for good
in the 3rd inning plating 2 runs on 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded,
Jordan Schafer began the Atlanta spurt when he drew a walk.  Schafer was safe
at second on a stolen base.  After another out, Freddie Freeman then
delivered a base-hit resulting in a run.  McCann was up next and he doubled
scoring the final run of the inning.  Atlanta totaled 8 hits on the
afternoon.  
 
Freddy Garcia(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Craig Kimbrel recorded his 13th save.  Homer Bailey(2-1) suffered
the loss.  Although losing the contest, he whiffed 8 batters in 5 innings.

Shortstop Zack Cozart collected 4 RBI with one swing of the bat at Turner
Field as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Atlanta Braves 5 to 3.
 
Cozart had a good day at the plate.  He doubled scoring a run in the 3rd
inning and depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam home run in
the 8th inning.  Atlanta made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.  
 
Mat Latos(3-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Aroldis Chapman was credited with his 8th save.  Luis
Avilan(1-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.

In a game at PETCO Park the San Francisco Giants got by the San Diego Padres
by the score of 6 to 3.
 
San Diego found themselves trailing quickly as the San Francisco bats came
through in the first inning when they scored 5 runs on 3 hits.  That early
scoring was all that Matt Cain(2-3) needed.  San Francisco won despite being
out-hit by San Diego 11 hits to 5.  
 
Sergio Romo earned the save, his 7th. Jason Marquis(1-4) took the loss.  He
allowed 6 runs and 5 hits in 6 innings.

Kyle Blanks had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Tyson Ross was on top of his game,
blanking San Francisco on just 2 hits as the San Diego Padres outscored the

Ross(3-2) dominated San Francisco hitters.  He didn't give up much, just 2
hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.59 to 2.01.  San Diego
managed 9 hits in their victory.  
 
Madison Bumgarner(2-2) was hit with the loss.  He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings
giving up 8 hits and no walks. 'Ross was the man today,' Kimon Michaels said.
'He had just about every pitch working.'

Troy Tulowitzki jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI as the Colorado
Rockies topped the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 4 to 3 at Busch
Stadium.
 
Tulowitzki had a big day at the plate.  He launched a three-run homer in the
1st inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 8th inning.  The St. Louis
batters didn't put up a fight in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
Wilton Lopez(1-2) got the win allowing 1 run in 2 and 1/3 innings. Lopez got
help from Rex Brothers who was credited with his 4th save.  Adam

The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park by
the score of 2 to 1.
 
The game was won by Philadelphia with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
John Mayberry Jr drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Darin Ruf stepped
up to the plate and he doubled.  Anthony Varvaro then threw a high and inside
pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball scoring the run.
Atlanta was set down quietly in the 9th.  
 
Justin De Fratus(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning.
Jonathan Papelbon preserved the game for De Fratus, recording his his 7th
save.  Varvaro(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief.  He was pinned with the
loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 inning of work.

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  Milwaukee won it in the
11th inning.  Scooter Gennett lined a single.  After an out was recorded,
Gindl came to bat and tripled resulting in an exciting win for Milwaukee and
a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Milwaukee finished
with 9 hits while San Diego ended up with 4.

In a game at Marlins Park the San Diego Padres got by the Miami Marlins by the
score of 6 to 3.
 
San Diego went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning plating one
baserunner.  Alexi Amarista reached on an error.  Chase Headley followed and
he reached on an error.  Carlos Quentin then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the
run.  Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 3rd save.  
 
The winning pitcher was Eric Stults(3-4) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. Jose
Fernandez(5-2) was tagged with the loss.  He surrendered 7 hits and 4 walks
in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Giancarlo Stanton launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Miami Marlins

Stanton was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors.  He cracked a two-run shot in the 3rd
inning and blasted a two-run home run in the 5th inning.  Both teams finished
the game with 7 hits.  
 
Nathan Eovaldi(4-1) allowed 1 run in 5 innings, and picked up the victory.
Edinson Volquez(1-4) took the loss.  He was not very effective, surrendering
6 runs in 5 innings.

Atlanta promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating one
baserunner utilizing 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Jason Heyward
doubled.  Justin Upton was the next batter, but he struck out.  Freddie
Freeman then lined a single scoring the run.  Philadelphia was out-hit by
Atlanta, 7 hits to 2.  
 
Minor(5-3) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Craig Kimbrel
recorded the save, his 12th.  Cliff Lee(4-3) suffered the loss.

Freddie Freeman helped send the fans home happy.  He slapped a base-hit which

inning.  Atlanta rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.  
 
The win went to Paul Maholm(2-3) who allowed 1 run in 5 and 1/3 innings. Cole
Hamels(1-8) took the loss.  He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings.

Catcher Yadier Molina touched them all and had 2 RBI and Joe Kelly came
through with a solid 8 innings as the St. Louis Cardinals bested the
Philadelphia Phillies 5 to 0 at Busch Stadium.
 
Kelly(3-1) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Philadelphia
hitters.  He surrendered only 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings lowering his ERA
to 4.05.  St. Louis had 12 hits for the game and Philadelphia had 5.  
 
Kyle Kendrick(1-5) was tagged with the loss.  He was knocked around by St.
Louis, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Catcher Carlos Ruiz had 2 base hits and Jonathan Pettibone took a no-hitter
into the 7th inning as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals 5 to 4 at Citizens Bank Park.
 
Pettibone(4-2) gave Philadelphia a solid outing.  He went 7 and 1/3 innings
allowing 3 hits and 4 walks.  The right-handed Pettibone lost a no-hitter
when Yadier Molina singled with one out in the 7th inning.  St. Louis
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
Jonathan Papelbon was credited with his 6th save.  Lance Lynn(2-2) absorbed
the loss.  He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 9 hits and 2 walks.
