At Busch Stadium the St. Louis Cardinals were battered 8 to 1 by the
Pittsburgh Pirates.
 
In the top of the 2nd inning Pittsburgh scored 5 runs with the help of 5 hits.
That early run support was enough for Jeff Locke(1-0) and Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh had 10 hits for the night while St. Louis had 3.  
 
Jeanmar Gomez recorded his 1st save.  Lance Lynn(0-1) ended up with the loss.
He allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

In a game for the baseball purist, Francisco Liriano(1-0) and Adam
Wainwright(0-1) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Pittsburgh Pirates
finally emerged victorious over St. Louis Cardinals, 3 to 1.
 
St. Louis was unable to recover after Pittsburgh went ahead in the 5th inning
scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits.  Pittsburgh had 8 hits for the
night.  
 
Tony Watson recorded his 1st save.

Washington Nationals 5 to 0 at Dodger Stadium.
 
Los Angeles(NL) claimed the early lead in the first inning plating one
baserunner utilizing 2 base hits.  That scoring would be all that was needed.
Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 2nd inning with no runs scored
after that point.  
 
The win went to Hyun-Jin Ryu(1-0) who allowed no runs in 7 innings. Gio
Gonzalez(0-1) was charged with the loss.  He was knocked around by Los
Angeles(NL), allowing 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.
