duel. Matt Garza(1-1) finally bested his Oakland counterpart, Sonny
Gray(0-1), by the score of 2 to 0.
Oakland found themselves trailing quickly as the Texas bats came through in
the first inning when they tallied 2 runs on 4 hits. That early run support
was all that Garza required. Neither team managed to score after the 1st
inning.
Garza got help from Joe Nathan who was credited with his 10th save. Gray
absorbed the loss. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 1 walk.

Designated hitter Geovany Soto smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Yu Darvish
dominated striking out 10 New York (AL) batters at Rangers Ballpark as the
Texas Rangers beat the New York (AL) Yankees by the count of 7 to 1.
Soto provided much of the offense. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning and delivered a solo blast in the 6th inning. Texas had a total of 9
hits for the game.
Darvish(5-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Phil
Hughes(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He served up 4 homeruns in his 5 and 1/3
innings.
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Darvish offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of
course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

(AL) Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals by a score of 4 to 3 at Kauffman
Stadium.
New York (AL) claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs

crowd as he bombed a two-run dinger. Mariano Rivera was perfect in relief
and got the save, his 5th.
Hiroki Kuroda(5-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. The loss
was charged to Ervin Santana(6-1). 'I was a little good, a little bad and a
little ugly.' said Kuroda, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'
