The Seattle Mariners and the Chicago (AL) Whitesox locked up in an exciting
one-run game at US Cellular Field. The final score was the Seattle Mariners
8, the Chicago (AL) Whitesox 7.

Seattle took the lead for good in the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 2
hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Franklin Gutierrez who helped quiet
the crowd when he doubled bringing home two baserunners. Chicago (AL) had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Jason Vargas(5-2) who went 5 innings, allowing 2
runs. Brandon League was credited with his 5th save. Philip Humber(2-5) was
hit with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits
and 2 walks in 3 innings.

'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Vargas said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'
