Paul Maholm was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Chris Johnson had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the Atlanta Braves
outscored the reeling San Diego Padres 10 to 1.
Johnson helped send the fans home happy. He doubled in the 4th inning,
clubbed a three-run home run in the 5th inning, doubled bringing home two
baserunners in the 6th inning and lined a single in the 8th inning. Atlanta
banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.
Maholm(1-2) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Jason Marquis(0-1)
ended up with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 5 and 2/3 innings of work.
With this win, Atlanta has a 10-6 record. They have been 6-4 lately. Kimon
Michaels was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along
lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
