Cole Hamels racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts as the Philadelphia
Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 3 to 0 at Citizen's
Bank Park.

Hamels(3-4) escaped virtually unscathed against the Pittsburgh hitters. He
didn't give up much, just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop
from 4.11 to 3.44. Philadelphia finished with just 4 hits in the victory.

James McDonald(1-1) was charged with the loss. He pitched 8 innings and
surrendered just 4 hits and 1 walk. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance
of Hamels - except Pittsburgh. John DePanicis lamented, 'He just was 'on'
this afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game
by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans -
unfortunately we were the visitors!'
