At Progressive Field, the Cleveland fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Justin Masterson(1-0) finally bested his Baltimore opposite, Zach
Britton(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Cleveland brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning when
they came up with 4 base hits. Carlos Santana kicked off the action when he
doubled. After another out, Jason Donald dug into the batters box next, but
he struck out. Jim Thome then lined a base-hit. After another out, Jack
Hannahan came to the plate and delivered a one-base hit. Shelley Duncan came
up to bat and stroked a single to load the bases. That early run support was
all that Masterson required. Baltimore threatened in the 9th but Cleveland
was able to put down the rally.

Masterson got help from Joe Smith who earned his 1st save. Britton was the
losing pitcher. Craig Lombardi was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It
was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
