Andy Pettitte had a strong outing at Comerica Park where the New York (AL)
Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers by the score of 6 to 0.
 
Pettitte(2-0) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Detroit
hitters.  He gave up just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA
from 3.00 to 1.20.  New York (AL) had 10 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Max Scherzer(0-1) suffered the loss.  He struck out 11 batters in 7 and 1/3
innings despite losing the game.  'I thought it was my best performance in a
long time,' said Pettitte. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my
control and composure and everything went well.'
