Edinson Volquez mowed down 11 Milwaukee batters as the Cincinnati Reds bested
the Milwaukee Brewers 9 to 5 at Miller Park.

Jay Bruce had a big day at the plate. He stroked a single in the 1st inning,
lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 5th inning and ripped a
one-base hit resulting in a run in the 6th inning. Cincinnati managed 10
hits in their victory.

Volquez(1-0) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Randy
Wolf(1-6) was the loser. He surrended 4 homeruns in his 5 innings.

Volquez didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he
had 11 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'
