At AT&T Park, the San Francisco fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Gio
Gonzalez(1-0) finally bested his San Francisco opposite, Madison
Bumgarner(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Washington tallied 2 runs in the 2nd inning. That early scoring held up. San
Francisco had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Rafael Soriano preserved the game for Gonzalez, recording his his 1st save.
Bumgarner absorbed the loss. Although losing the contest, he whiffed 11
batters in 8 innings.

'We won because we did the little things right.' Lee Michaels said after the
game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'
