At SBC Park, the San Francisco faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Jason Schmidt(1-1) finally bested his Los Angeles(NL)
counterpart, Jeff Weaver(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Schmidt put on a good performance. He allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks in 7
innings. Schmidt chalked up 8 strikeouts improving his ERA from 9.00 to
4.50. San Francisco had only 4 hits for the game.

Schmidt got help from Armando Benitez who was credited with his 2nd save.
Weaver was hit with the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in 6 and 2/3
innings.
