John Patterson pitched a 3 hit shutout and first baseman Nick Johnson had 2
base hits and 2 RBI as the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres
by the score of 5 to 0 at Petco Park.

Patterson(1-1) was simply too much for the San Diego batters. He allowed just
3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 4.26 to 2.49.
Washington finished with 8 hits in the victory.

Adam Eaton(0-2) suffered the loss. 'He came out with good stuff,' Lee
Michaels said about Patterson. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch
on.'
