14,551 fans were treated to a fine game at Rogers Centre as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Toronto Bluejays won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Toronto tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Edwin Encarnacion
began things off when he clubbed a solo home run. J.P. Arencibia struck out,
unable to help the rally. Brett Lawrie then smashed a solo-shot out of the
park. Kansas City threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The winning pitcher was Ricky Romero(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Frank Francisco was credited with his 1st save. Jeff Francis(0-1)
took the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 6 and 2/3 innings.
John Farrell was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'
