Second baseman Robinson Cano jacked one out of the ballyard and had 5 RBI as
the New York (AL) Yankees outscored the Oakland A's 8 to 2.
 
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Cano.  He lined a single bringing in two baserunners in the 1st
inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 4th inning.  New York (AL) and
Oakland each finished the afternoon with 7 hits.  
 
C.C. Sabathia(1-0) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Jarrod
Parker(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 8 runs in 4 innings of work.

pitching duel at O.co Coliseum.  The New York (AL) Yankees eventually emerged
as victors over the Oakland A's by the score of 1 to 0.
 
New York (AL) won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Brett Gardner lined a one-base hit.  One out later, Robinson Cano
came to bat and slapped a base-hit.  Mark Teixeira then doubled scoring the
run.  Despite losing, Oakland out-hit New York (AL) 7 to 4.  
 
Mariano Rivera gained credit for his 1st save.

Jake Arrieta had an impressive outing as the Baltimore Orioles topped the

and 1 walk in 7 innings.  Overall Baltimore out-hit Tampa Bay 10 to 5.

In a dramatic ending at Tropicana Field the Tampa Bay Rays won in their last
at-bat beating the Baltimore Orioles by the count of 2 to 1.
 
Tampa Bay scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  After two were out Luke
Scott lashed a single.  Fuld stole second with some aggressive base running.
Wil Myers then stroked a one-base hit making Tampa Bay victorious to the
delight of the the home town crowd.  Tampa Bay had only 6 hits for the game.
 
The victory went to Cesar Ramos(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. Jim Johnson(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 hits
and no walks in 2/3 of an inning.

game at Camden Yards.  The final score was the Minnesota Twins 3, the
Baltimore Orioles 2.
 
Minnesota started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first when they came up with 2 runs on 3 hits.  Glen Perkins was perfect
in relief and got the save, his 1st.

Joe Mauer had 3 base hits as the Minnesota Twins bested the Baltimore Orioles
in 12 innings 2 to 1 at Target Field.
 
Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Minnesota won it in
the 12th inning.  After two were out Pedro Florimon reached on an error.
Florimon swiped second base.  Brian Dozier then drew a walk.  Mauer came up
and he laced a base-knock making Minnesota the victors to the delight of the
home town faithful.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
6th inning.  
 
Anthony Swarzak(1-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Troy
Patton(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.  He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.

Corey Kluber(2-0) and Bruce Chen(0-1) treated the Cleveland fans to a fine
pitching duel at Progressive Field.  The Cleveland Indians eventually emerged
as victors over the Kansas City Royals by the score of 3 to 1.
 
Cleveland brought 2 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning when they had 3
base hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  The pitchers took
over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.  
 
Kluber got help from Joe Smith who earned his 1st save.

Justin Masterson(2-0) and James Shields(0-1) locked horns in a pitcher's duel
with Masterson and the Cleveland Indians coming out on top of the Kansas City
Royals 2 to 1.
 
Masterson earned his pay with a solid performance for Cleveland.  He went 8
and 1/3 innings and surrended up 8 hits and 3 walks.  Kansas City had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Bryan Shaw was credited with his 1st save.  'It wasn't my best outing, but
I'll take the win' Masterson said.

Ervin Santana blanked Cleveland allowing just 3 hits at Kauffman Stadium as
the Kansas City Royals, running on all cylinders, ripped the Cleveland
Indians by a large 10 to 0 margin.
 
Santana(1-0) simply dominated Cleveland. He gave up just 3 hits and 4 walks in
9 innings.  Kansas City banged out 12 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Zach McAllister(0-1) was hit with the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing
12 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.
