Jose Contreras delivered 9 solid innings at US Cellular Field where the
Chicago (AL) Whitesox beat the New York (NL) Mets by the score of 6 to
0.

New York (NL) was unable to claim the lead after Chicago (AL) went ahead in
the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. Aaron Rowand got
things going when he reached on an error. After an out was recorded,
Jermaine Dye came up and he lashed a single. Tadahito Iguchi then drew a
walk to load the bases. Pablo Ozuna was up next and he hit a deep fly
bringing in a run. Juan Uribe stepped into the box and doubled with two more
runners crossing home. That early scoring held up. Chicago (AL) had only 6
hits for the night.

Contreras(1-0) was credited with the shutout. Tom Glavine(0-1) was the loser.
He allowed Chicago (AL) 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of work.
