Jon Lester retired 13 batters on strikeouts as the Boston Redsox bested the
Los Angeles(AL) Angels 2 to 1 at Fenway Park.

Lester(1-0) looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn't allow
much, just 5 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. Neither team managed to
score after the 4th inning.

Lester was helped out by Daniel Bard who recorded his 1st save. Dan
Haren(0-1) ended up with the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 8
innings.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Lester - except Los Angeles(AL).
John DePanicis lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys
off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a
fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
