Scott Podsednik had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Jake Peavy struck out 13 batters
as the Chicago (AL) Whitesox defeated the Boston Redsox by the score of 5 to
3 at US Cellular Field.

Peavy(1-0) pitched a fine game. He allowed 5 hits and no walks in 7 and 1/3
innings and was touched for 2 homeruns. Matt Thornton pitched a perfect
ninth and was credited with his 2nd save.

Josh Beckett(1-2) was charged with the loss. Peavy was jubilant in the
hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there. The fans gave me a lot
of support as did my teammates. We got the victory and I'll sure take 13
strikeouts anytime!'
