The Pittsburgh Pirates nipped the St. Louis Cardinals 3 to 2 at Busch Stadium
in a hard fought contest.
 
James McDonald(2-1) pitched well for Pittsburgh in their victory.  He went 7
and 2/3 innings surrendering 8 hits and 3 walks lowering his ERA to 3.81.
St. Louis tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
McDonald got help from Jared Hughes who was credited with his 2nd save.  Lance
Lynn(1-2) was the loser.  'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them'
Mike Matheny said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win.
