Edinson Volquez racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts and third
baseman Edwin Encarnacion had 2 base hits and 5 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds
defeated the Houston Astros by a score of 9 to 6 at Great American
Bpk.
Volquez(2-3) gave Cincinnati a solid outing. He was reached for 10 hits and 2
walks in 8 and 1/3 innings. Houston threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.
Brandon Backe(3-2) ended up with the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 4
innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Volquez offered,
'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout
totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon
- of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
