Justin Verlander mowed down 14 Houston batters as the Detroit Tigers defeated
the Houston Astros in 10 innings 4 to 3 at Comerica Park.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Detroit was
victorious in the 10th inning.  Don Kelly reached on an error.  Ramon
Santiago next to the plate and he reached on an error.  Austin Jackson then
stroked a base-hit making Detroit the winners and sending the 32,852 fans
home happy.  Detroit had only 6 hits for the afternoon.  
 
The win was credited to Jose Valverde(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing
no runs. The loss was charged to Mickey Storey(0-1) in relief.
