21,034 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The St. Louis
Cardinals topped the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the slimmest of margins, 4 to
3.

Chicago (NL) lost it in the 8th inning when St. Louis did all their damage as
they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The highlight belonged to Carlos Beltran
who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he smashed a two-run homer.
St. Louis won despite being out-hit by Chicago (NL) 11 hits to 7.

The victory was credited to Marc Rzepczynski(1-0) who went 3 innings, allowing
no runs. Rzepczynski got help from Trevor Rosenthal who earned his 1st save.
Hector Rondon(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1
walk in 2/3 of an inning.
