John Smoltz tossed a complete game as the Atlanta Braves defeated the San
Francisco Giants by a score of 4 to 1 at Turner Field.

Atlanta claimed the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated run
utilizing 2 base hits. Atlanta and San Francisco each finished the afternoon
with 8 hits.

The win went to Smoltz(1-1) who allowed 1 run in the game. Kirk Rueter(0-1)
absorbed the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 2
walks.
