Darin Ruf blasted a homerun and scored 3 times and Cliff Lee reeled off a
total of 10 strikeouts at Citizens Bank Park where the Philadelphia Phillies
beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs 8 to 1.

Lee(2-1) was on top of his game. He surrendered only 4 hits and no walks in 9
innings lowering his ERA to 1.43. Offensively, Philadelphia was a
juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.

The loss was charged to Travis Wood(1-5). Although losing the contest, he
whiffed 8 batters in 5 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the
game, Lee offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them
tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept
them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the
'W'.'
