Aaron Harang mowed down 12 Washington batters as the San Diego Padres beat the
Washington Nationals by a score of 2 to 0.

Harang(1-0) was on top of his game. He didn't allow much, just 4 hits and no
walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.

Heath Bell earned the save, his 1st. Livan Hernandez(0-1) suffered the loss.
He gave up just 2 runs and 4 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings. Lee Michaels was
upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did you see that umpires
strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone
the way it's printed in the rule book.'
