The New York (AL) Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners by a score of 6 to 3
at SAFECO Field.
 
New York (AL) scored the winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 5 runners on 3
hits.  The highlight belonged to Mark Teixeira who deflated the crowd as he
doubled bringing in two baserunners.  New York (AL) finished with just 6 hits
in the victory.  
 
The win was credited to David Phelps(1-0) who went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing
1 run. Rafael Soriano got the save, his 9th.  Felix Hernandez(2-3) absorbed
the loss.
