In a close game the Washington Nationals got by the St. Louis Cardinals in 14
innings by the score of 6 to 4.

The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Washington came out on top in
the 14th inning. Marlon Byrd led off and started the rally when he laced a
single. Brad Wilkerson struck out, unable to help the rally. Jose Vidro
then smacked a single. Jose Guillen came up and he lashed a single to load
the bases. Nick Johnson stepped into the box and lined a one-base hit
knocking home two runners. St. Louis had 18 hits in the game while
Washington had 15, but Washington had the more timely hits.

The victory was credited to Luis Ayala(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Chad Cordero was credited with his 4th save. Randy Flores(0-1) was hit
with the loss in relief.

Washington now has a record of 10-15. The loss by St. Louis interrupted a
nice 8-2 recent run.
