At Petco Park, the San Diego fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Matt
Cain(1-1) finally bested his San Diego opposite, Jake Peavy(1-2), by the
score of 3 to 1.

Cain contributed a very nicely pitched game. He gave up just 9 hits and 1
walk in 8 and 2/3 innings. Cain recorded 9 strikeouts reducing his ERA from
2.02 to 1.23. San Diego had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came
up short.

Brian Wilson recorded the save, his 2nd. Peavy took the loss. He gave up 3
runs and 9 hits in 7 innings.
