Gio Gonzalez didn't allow a hit until the 8th inning as the Washington
Nationals defeated the Atlanta Braves 3 to 2 at Turner Field.

Gonzalez(2-1) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Atlanta batters. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 3 walks in 8 and
1/3 innings. Gonzalez chalked up 11 strikeouts lowering his ERA to 2.94.
The left-handed Gonzalez lost his chance for a no-hitter when Dan Uggla
doubled with nobody out in the 8th inning. Atlanta had a chance in the 9th
but they came up short.

Gonzalez got help from Tyler Clippard who earned his 3rd save. The loss was
charged to Tim Hudson(1-1). Gonzalez was pleased with his performance. He
noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my location
was right on.'
